Just Another Controversy?
The blogworld has been upto some kick ass activism in the last few days, the latest in the order being my favourite JAM magazine versus IIPM an institution whose reputation seems to be turning increasingly seedy given the level to which they've attacked bloggers and the media through some more anonymous sons of anonymous fathers (my favourite pissholes!) on JAM's editor Rashmi's site.
To those who haven't heard this story before, here's a quick recap:
JAM did this gem of an expose on IIPM.
Gaurav Sabnis a blogger who works with IBM gives a link and makes a post questioning the credentials of the self-styled Arindam Chaudhri, (the same panzy looking clown made that Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander wannabe and howler called Rok Sucko To Rok Lo. I remember some terribly laid out ads that tried to make an ass of a movie look like a race horse, in vain of course). As a journalist, I surely will not entertain any more requests by a dubious management school.
I think its dubious cuz I cannot believe that a management school can have a top management which is dumb enough to serves legal notices on JAM and Gaurav, apart from calling his company to demand removal of his posts (failing which the students would burn IBM laptops as a mark of protest).
Just to save IBM of any such controversy, Gaurav resigned his job. He has made a post explaining his decision.
The reason why I think IIPM's think tank is empty is that why would an institute want to attract media attention to the facts it wud rather underplay... facts like how it spent 5.1 crores on advertising and charges lakhs from students for a course that is not recognised as an MBA? Why would it let losers make personal attacks on bloggers and defame themselves???
Any attack on a blogger or freedom of speech and expression amounts to IIPM or its students themselves defaming the brand. A management school ought to know that much about the importance of protecting a brand. Gaurav has only increased his credibility and proved his integrity by resigning and has won the support of hundreds of bloggers. If Arindam had an iota of intelligence, he would focus on doing damage control and ask his team of jokers to shut the fuck up, fire some of them and apologise to Rashmi and Gaurav and issue a statement as a clarification to the expose.
A legal case will only educate more people about lesser known facts about IIPM, its culture of attacking the media and attempts to hide truth and turn public opinion completely against it. An apology and clarification will make peace with an entire world of bloggers, their circle of friends who are obviously enraged at the stupidity of an institute that has cost a blogger his job, and the media itself. Making peace means getting a chance to make yourself heard... a chance to state your case... Which is what IIPM needs badly...
Hmmm... Some one needs a crash course in management at IIPM...
Or at least one in public relations.

Suderman, why is the media quiet on this story? Are they s*cking up to pressure from the institute?
Would your esteemed newspaper be taking up this story?

My thoughts exactly. _Why_ would a management institute do something that any sane-minded person can see backfiring badly?
Hehe IIPM needs a PR specialist. Badly at that. They need us. To work out a plan for them and save their asses!
vk:
will do.
vijaykrishna:
the media will take it up only if one of the two affected parties does want to go to press. else tomorrow they cud both turn around and say: it was a silly matter, the media has blown it out of proportion... like many other anonymous f**ks who do that here.
kaps:
not until either JAM or IIPM sends us a press release.
varun:
yeah dude... this case study proves amply that IIPM is the last place u shd go to study management.
princess:
absolutely. and now, dont you apply for a job there... he he!
Hi Sudhish. Bang on, your post! I hear the good folks at IIPM are rebranding themselves as IIPRM i.e The Idiotic Institute of Public Relations MisManagement! ;)
Hmm, If I recall several full page IIPM ads in "The Hindu" in the last few months. Maybe it's time for someone to follow Gaurav's path ?
Swami Nonsensesaananda
4 lacs for a free laptop and a eurotrip?
I would rather get a second hand laptop for Rs 50000 and get an online MBA from Jumbalaka University (University of Phoenix)...I have been getting a lot of spams from these guys...titled : Earn your PhD online thru University of Phoenix....Now I think maybe its IIPM...hehehe :)
ravi:
:) absolutely!
swami named-appropriately:
there are enuff jobs in this world. so why dont u find one first?
navin:
we have to face it... the world is full of glorious inequalities. people who get hits and people who pour out their frustration at those who do get hits (sample above ur comment). this dude has been commenting over the last one week under different nicks and anons... if he doesnt like this space, why is he even bothering to come back?? some OCD!
hi sudhish,
I jus finished sending a mail to my groups warning my friends to be careful abt IIPM following the JAMMAG article I read...Thanks to you Sudhish for guiding me to that JAMMAG article...
Its so hard to think of so many of my friends who are putting such a hard CAT fight - there are people in my class who literally work notjin but the insti materials for CAT during all the hours at coll....I jus thought I must save those aspirants from making a rash decision on joining that IIPWhatever...gawwdd I don't understand how such instis can advertise blatantly and continue to wreck the future and dreams of so many talented people in this country. Why is the media silent on this issue?
arun:
tho the means they get students are dubious and unethical, they do seem to keep those who get in happy. so the students dont complain or they probably have no choice... so till the affected complains, the media cannot and will not do anything. yes it is unfortunate indeed.
Sudhish: Another legal notice from IIPM, this time to Varna!
The same one, word to word!
